Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining policies and programmes that promote the welfare, safety and development of children in the state.

The Governor stated this in a message to commemorate the 2025 International Children’s Day, as contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Mr Sunusi Bature, on Tuesday in Kano.

Yusuf emphasised the importance of children to national development, insisting that their rights must be protected and their needs prioritised.

“Children are not only the future of Kano but of our nation. It is our moral and constitutional duty to ensure they grow in an atmosphere of love, dignity and security,” he said.

Yusuf said his government had taken steps to strengthen child protection laws, improve access to basic education and expand healthcare services across the 44 local government areas of the state.

The governor also disclosed that budgetary allocations to sectors affecting children, including education, health and social welfare, had been increased under his administration.

He announced plans to launch a state-wide campaign against child abuse, street begging and child labour in collaboration with local and international development partners.

“The declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector was aimed at removing all barriers to education and enabling the younger generation to achieve their full potential,” Yusuf said.

According to Bature, the governor had recently signed into law the bill establishing the Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA), with a mandate to promote social safety for vulnerable groups.
