Ogun APC governorship candidate seeks unity, support ahead 2027 elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate in Ogun, Sen. Solomon Adeola, has called for unity and reconciliation within the party ahead of the 2027 election.

Adeola made the call on Tuesday in Abeokuta during a visit to the former Nigerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Amb. Saràfa Ishola, as part of ongoing stakeholders’ consultations.

He commended Ishola for his contributions to the development of Ogun and the country, and urged him to support his candidacy.

The senator said the ongoing political process should not produce winners or losers, but should instead strengthen party cohesion and promote shared responsibility.

Adeola described his ambition as a collective project and expressed readiness to work with all stakeholders to advance the state’s development agenda.

He emphasised that unity and mutual respect remained critical to achieving sustainable progress.

In his response, Ishola welcomed the delegation and congratulated Adeola on his emergence as the APC consensus candidate.

He said that although politics is often driven by interests, it should not be allowed to create division or bitterness.

The former envoy reiterated his commitment to the Yewa Agenda and the aspirations of Ogun West.

He recalled his role as Director-General of the 2011 governorship campaign of Late Gen. Tunji Olurin.

Ishola said he had consistently advocated stable political transitions and continuity in governance.

He added that he has engaged elder statesmen, including Chief Olusegun Osoba, Chief Gbenga Daniel and Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, on the need to avoid disruptive transitions.

The former ambassador, who noted that he was not part of a recent APC stakeholders’ meeting, described Adeola’s visit as a step toward reconciliation and inclusion.

Ishola also stressed the need to engage his support base to ensure inclusiveness in the political process.

Other party leaders present at the meeting, including Sen. Lekan Mustapha, Alhaja Salmot Badru, Mr Gboyega Isiaka and Mr Biodun Akinlade, also called for unity among party members.

They urged stakeholders to close ranks and work together in the interest of the state.
