Hope Uzodimma of Imo has urged the APC faithful in Abia to maintain unwavering loyalty and resilience for the party’s growth in the state and South-East in general.

Uzodimma made the call on Tuesday in Owerri during a meeting with the Abia APC stakeholders, led by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Benjamin Kalu in Owerri.

He said that South-East must reposition itself within Nigeria’s political structure to regain national relevance.

He praised them for showing political maturity during their recent state congress, specifically in settling for consensus candidates to lead the party.

“Build on this consensus to advance our party’s cause,” Uzodimma charged them, emphasising that unity was essential for the party to thrive in the South-East.

Reflecting on past challenges, he said that Nigeria had reached a critical turning point.

He blamed the failure of previous South-East struggles on “ignorance and wrong political calculation.”

The governor described the 2023 election outcomes in the zone as a “complete political accident”.

He vowed that such a “shift in results” would never repeat itself.

“Our job is to be our brother’s keeper,” he said, urging the party faithful from Abia to prioritise family bonds over personal ambitions or any internal political provocations.

He said that the region had resolved to exert significant national influence and a definitive say in the country.

“To take charge of our heritage, we must be part and parcel of the APC,” he said.

Uzodimma, who identified the party as the primary vehicle for reintegration, challenged the region to deliver more votes for the APC than any other region.

He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would win the 2027 Presidential poll in the region, convincingly.

The governor underscored the need to enforce peace to foster development in the region.

He urged the stakeholders to avoid any arrangements that might undermine their fellow citizens or the country.

Earlier, Kalu praised.Uzodimma’s leadership efforts towards achieving unity within the South-East APC.

He urged the stakeholders to support the governor in repositioning the region politically.

“We will no longer sit on the fence,” Kalu said.

He further warned that the party must avoid division and work collectively for greater influence nationally.

The deputy speaker also praised the giant developmental stride in Imo, highlighting Uzodimma’s commitment to “infrastructure development and good governance” as a model for the region.

He appealed for internal harmony within the Abia chapter of the party, calling for “unity and peace among party faithful” to ensure the party’s local success.

Our correspondent reports that speakers at the meeting affirmed that APC in Abia had grown in strength and was geared towards achieving victory in the 2027 elections.

Those who took turns to speak at the meeting included the Abia APC Chairman, Mr Chijioke Chukwu, Dr Cosmos Ndu, Chief Emeka Atuma, Mr Nyerere Anyim, Sen. Nkechi Nworgu and the South-East Zonal Youth Leader, Mr Chimamkpa Ogbonna.
