Insecurity: Be proactive to restore people’s confidence- political party tells Aiyedatiwa
The Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) says Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State should take proactive steps in addressing insecurity in the state to restore people’s confidence in the government.
Our correspondent reports that parents and guardians withdrew their children and wards from schools on Wednesday in Akure following an unconfirmed bandit attack, despite the government’s statement debunking the attack.
The state Chairman of DLA, Mr Oluwatosin Ayeni, who said this in a statement on Thursday in Akure, urged stakeholders ‘to discourage fire brigade approach in ensuring the safety of all residents of the state’.
Ayeni also enjoined residents of the state to stand ready to collaborate with the state government and all stakeholders in finding lasting solutions to security challenges.
According to him, the lives and property of people must not be politicised but taken as a priority.
“Aiyedatiwa should implement robust measures to secure the state’s borders and vast forest reserves, which are potential entry points and hideouts for criminal elements.
“There should be an establishment of a dedicated special security force, adequately equipped and trained, to address the unique security challenges faced by the state.
“The state government must provide unwavering support and encouragement to all security outfits operating within Ondo State.
“The state government must also ensure these agencies are well-resourced and motivated to effectively discharge their responsibilities in securing the state,” he said.
