Tinubu extends working vacation

This is contained in a statement by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Monday in Abuja.

Tinubu departed Nigeria on Aug. 30 for London to begin a three-week working vacation before moving to Paris, after a week.

In Paris, the President met with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Mr Vincent Bolloré, whose media interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.

In spite of being away, Tinubu has continued to keep in touch with home and direct the affairs of the nation.

He recently ordered an independent panel to investigate the deaths of 37 illegal miners in Minna following their detention by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

While away, Tinubu delegated Vice-President Kashim Shettima to represent him at some official functions.

Shettima left Abuja on Sept. 20 for New York to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly and will represent the President at the global conference.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, who has also represented the President at official events, will continue to do so.

On the political front, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Sen. Abubakar Yari, has been leading party leaders in consultations with prominent traditional rulers across the country.

The Presidency described as irresponsible insinuations by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and a U.S.-based lobbying firm concerning Tinubu’s non-attendance at the UN General Assembly.

It said such claims were baseless, noting that Shettima would present Nigeria’s national statement at the global conference.
