Uba sani approves N3.65bn for Kaduna retirees

Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has approved N3.65 billion for payment of pensions, gratuities and death benefits to retirees and families of deceased public servants.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Kaduna.

Maiyaki said the latest approval would benefit 1,339 retirees and eligible families under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) and Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

He said the latest approval brought cumulative pension payments by the administration to N21.45 billion since assuming office in May 2023.

According to him, the payments have so far covered 9,683 beneficiaries across the state and local government services.

Giving a breakdown, Maiyaki said 210 local government retirees would receive N515 million under the Defined Benefit Scheme.

He added that N3.14 billion was approved under the Contributory Pension Scheme for 1,12 beneficiaries.

“The beneficiaries comprise 402 retirees from the State Service and 727 retirees from Local Government Councils,” he said.

Maiyaki said the intervention demonstrated the administration’s commitment to systematically address outstanding pension liabilities and strengthen Kaduna’s pension system.

He added that the initiative was part of broader public financial management reforms aimed at promoting fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability.

The commissioner said the reforms were also designed to establish a predictable and sustainable framework for meeting pension obligations.

“Governor Uba Sani remains committed to ensuring that those who devoted their productive years to Kaduna State receive their legitimate entitlements with dignity.

“Pension payment is not a favour; it is an obligation to our retirees and families of deceased public servants,” he added.

Maiyaki reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to sustaining pension reforms and progressively addressing outstanding liabilities across the state.

He said the administration would continue working toward ensuring greater financial security, dignity and peace of mind for public servants in retirement.
