Concerned Stakeholders under the aegis of “Transparent Campus Group” at the University of Ibadan (UI) have raised an alarm over an alleged plan to impose a corrupt official as the Chief Bursar of the institution.

Tension in UI over appointment of new Bursar

The group which draws its membership from both workers and students of the institution in a press statement signed by its Coordinator, Mr Tola Adegoke said they are aware of plans by some members of the management to manipulate the process of selection of the Chief Bursar.

“We are not against anybody’s progress but we don’t want a situation where corrupt officials will be appointed as the head of bursary department at the expense of the development of the institution.”

‘Our organization through our fact finding team have discovered the desperate move of one of the applicants who was said to have been holding series of meetings with different associations including academic and non academic Unions.’

“From our investigations, we have also discovered that one of the applicants’ sudden rise to affluence is questionable,” how can somebody whose annual pay is not up to six million naira be buying exotic cars and buying properties in eye brow area of the city of Ibadan apart from sending members of his family to private universities where he pays huge amount of money.”

“While we are calling on those concerned to be conscious of the fact the we are now in the change era, we should ensure transparency and accountability in compliance with the vision and agenda of president Muhamadu Buhari led government.”

“We are also using this medium to enjoin the new Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole and his caucus at the University not to identify himself or support any corrupt officers as attempt to do so will continue to drag his name and integrity in the mud.”
